Chiropractic is natural, drug free health care that focuses on correcting the causes of physical problems rather than addressing just the symptoms. Chiropractic is based on a powerful premise: with normally functioning nerves, joints and spine, the body is better able to heal itself, function properly and stay healthy. As a chiropractor I focus on the health of the spine and nerves, and work to restore the health of the entire body, using a personalized approach to overall wellness through spinal adjustments, exercise, good nutrition and stress management. Health is freedom.

The purpose of our office is to improve the quality of life of individuals and families in our community, using sound chiropractic and natural health principles.

To offer people a different paradigm about health and wellness by promoting natural healing with chiropractic, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Through educating and cooperating with our patients and other health care practitioners, we aim to improve patients’ quality of life and enhance their performance at home, work and play.

Dr. Cal Melton, Jr., Owner
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." - Thomas Edison.

Dr. Cal’s favorite quote truly speaks to the core of his professional beliefs and his guiding philosophy as a chiropractor. His patients are his focus, and their care is paramount. A Tallahassee native, Dr. Cal is the 12th chiropractor in the family who prides himself on the personal attention and total-body wellness offered through Downtown Chiropractic and Sports Development Center and Body Wisdom. He offers his patients a different paradigm for health and wellness by promoting natural healing with chiropractic care, therapy programs, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. By educating his patients, he aims to improve their quality of life.

Dr. Melton earned his Bachelor's of Biological Sciences degree from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida in the spring of 1997. He later received a Bachelor's of Science degree from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, where he also earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in August 2000. After working in Chicago, Dr. Cal returned to Tallahassee in 2000 and entered into practice with his uncle, Dr. Paul Grant. In January 2006, Dr. Cal opened Downtown Chiropractic and Sports Development Center at the Gold’s Gym facilities in Tallahassee and in January of 2008 opened his own standalone practice. In January of 2010, he purchased Body Wisdom.

Callie Griffin, Business Manager
Chiropractic care has always been a part of Callie’s life because it played such a vital role in the careers of her brother Dr. Cal and their relatives. She joined Downtown Chiropractic in January 2008, after having spent a few years raising her children. Before that she worked for The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce as the President’s Assistant and then as the Programs Coordinator and Senior Executive Assistant to Commissioner Charles Bronson, Terry Rhodes and Bob Crawford. She believes firmly, as she learned growing up in a family of chiropractors, that quick fixes are not always the best; that medication cannot cure all; and that surgery is a last alternative. Every day, she watches Dr. Cal heal not only his patients but her children and herself – keeping them healthy. Callie graduated from FSU in 1990 with a degree in child development.

Judy Moody Gempel, ARP Therapist, Personal trainer and group fitness instructor
Judy, certified since 1995 for personal and group training through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), believes that exercise and movement is the best way to unleash the body’s regenerative power. She helps Dr. Cal’s clients regain strength and motion with expertise gained through her years of experience, including two years working under the direction of several gifted physical therapists at Tallahassee Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. She continues to expand her "toolbox" with certifications from the American Senior Fitness Association and Wellcoaches®. She holds a bachelor of fine arts from Valdosta State College, and soon after began her first degree in graphic arts, where she learned that the best antidotes to stress were trail runs and lunches spent in the gym.

Alexandra Hoxworth, Massage Therapy
Alexandra is a graduate of The Core Institute of Massage Therapy and Bodywork here in Tallahassee. She began her career working in an outpatient physical therapy office and spent 12 years there learning different modalities, such as, hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation and various exercises and stretches geared toward helping each patient to achieve their goals. Now, with Bodywisdom and Downtown Chiropractic, she is excited to start on a new journey learning ARP therapy and working with a great team of professionals.

Rachel Tellers, Massage Therapy
Rachel's original goal was to be a school teacher, getting my Masters Degree in Education. But her curious nature led her to becoming a Visual Merchandiser, Cosmetologist, and Personal Trainer. She contributes her diverse background and passion for health and fitness to her unique style of massage therapy. This special gift has helped people with injury and chronic pain that she would love to share with You.
